Bhubaneswar: Childline with the help of police and the Labour department officials today rescued a 13-year-old girl child from the house of one Rashmi Ranjan Jena and Pratima Jena at Satya Enclave, Satya Vihar, under Mancheswar police limits of the city.
The rescued child was engaged as domestic help by the couple. The couple had allegedly brutally beaten up the kid and branded her with a hot iron.
“In a joint rescue operation by Childline, Labour Officer and Police have rescued a 13-year-old girl child from the Mancheswar police station area. According to her statement, a man had brought her from her village in Raj Kanika area of Kendrapara district by trafficking last February while she was studying in class VI,” informed Director of Childline, Bhubaneswar Benudhar Senapati.
Senapati said that the man who had brought her here had allegedly made her work in the house of his son-in-law and daughter as a domestic servant.
“They have beaten her, the marks of which are still visible. They have even brutally branded her with hot iron crossing all limits of torture. This is a clear case of trafficking, confinement and brutal abuse,” he added.
The Childline Director has further informed that an FIR has been filed with the Mancheswar police in this connection and added that the child has been kept at the VJSS open shelter on the advice of the CWC (Child Welfare Committee).
He said police will take necessary action after the investigation.
