Bhubaneswar: A cold wave continues to sweep across Odisha, with temperatures plummeting in various parts of the state. North and South Odisha are the worst hit, with dry winds blowing in the north. Semiliguda in Kandhamal recorded the lowest temperature of 6.5 followed by Daringibadi at 8 degrees Celsius. Phulbani became the third coldest town at 9.5 degrees c.
Coastal areas are also experiencing a significant drop in temperature, with night temperatures 3-4 degrees below normal. Interior Odisha is seeing an even sharper decline, with temperatures 3-6 degrees below normal. Fog has rolled in over Koraput’s hilly areas, reducing visibility to 100 meters in some spots.
The mercury is expected to dip further over the next two days. Semiliguda remains the coldest spot at 6.5 degrees, followed by Daringibadi and G.Udayagiri at 8 degrees. Other cold spots include Phulbani (9.5 degrees), Rourkela (10.2 degrees), and Jharsuguda (10.3 degrees).
Temperatures in key cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are 4.8 and 4.3 degrees below normal, respectively. A total of 10 places recorded temperatures below 12 degrees, with Korei, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, and Keonjhar also shivering at 11.3, 11.3, 11.5, and 11.6 degrees, respectively.
