Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness increased rainfall from July 22 onwards as a circulation is expected to form over the Odisha-West Bengal-Jharkhand border region, weather experts.
According to weather experts Dr Sarat Sahu, the circulation may intensify into a low-pressure area by July 24, which coincides with the Bahuda Yatra or the return car festival.
Under its influence, Puri is likely to receive heavy rainfall on Bahuda day. Due to this system, rainfall will increase across the state from July 22. North Odisha is likely to see heavy rain. Coastal and southern parts of Odisha will also receive good showers.
He further stated that another circulation may develop between July 27 and 30, and rainfall is expected to continue till the end of the month. The monsoon trough is currently active, which will also contribute to rain. Some places may record heavy to very heavy rainfall of up to 100 mm, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.
The IMD has forecast heavy rain in north Odisha on July 22 and 23.
As per IMD prediction, heavy rain is likely in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, while some parts of coastal and south Odisha may also receive rainfall today.
The state recorded significant rainfall on Monday. Kendujhar received 30.6 mm, Titlagarh 17 mm, and Paradip 25.4 mm.
