Balasore: A shocking incident of violence was reported from Remuna High School in Balasore district on Friday, where a Class 10 student allegedly attacked a Class 9 student with a sword during the school’s annual function.
According to sources, the incident occurred while the annual programme was underway on the school premises, triggering panic among students, teachers, and attendees. The injured Class 9 student sustained deep injuries to his head and hand and was immediately rushed to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital, Balasore, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, the accused Class 10 student reportedly went to the Remuna police station and surrendered himself. Police have seized the sword used in the attack and launched an investigation into the matter.
While the exact motive behind the assault is yet to be officially confirmed, preliminary information suggests that the incident may be linked to a personal dispute. Sources indicate that the accused student had feelings for a Class 9 girl, and a misunderstanding related to the matter may have led to the violent act. However, police officials stated that the precise sequence of events and motive will be established only after a thorough investigation.
The incident has raised serious concerns among educationists and child welfare experts. They have emphasized the growing need for psychological counseling in schools to address emotional stress and behavioural issues among students. Experts have also urged teachers and parents to maintain close supervision and engage in regular communication with children to prevent such incidents in the future.
Further police investigation into the incident is underway.
