Baripada: A Class 9 minor girl was found to be around five months pregnant in Mayurbhanj district, following which Badashahi police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by her family and detained a youth allegedly involved in the incident.
According to the complaint, the minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a youth from a neighbouring house during her summer vacation. The accused allegedly took advantage of the absence of other family members and threatened the girl with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
After the vacation, the girl returned to her school hostel. During an examination conducted by the school authorities this week, she was found to be pregnant, following which the school informed her family.
The family subsequently took the minor for a medical examination, which reportedly confirmed that she was approximately five months pregnant. The girl then allegedly disclosed the incident to her family, following which they approached the police.
Badshahi police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused, identified as Rabindra Singh of the Badashahi police station area, has been brought to the police station and detained.
The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector Anita Swain. Police said the allegations, the applicable provisions of law and other details of the case will be established after completion of the investigation.
