Baripada: A Class-V student died today while undergoing treatment at Baripada PRM Medical College and Hospital in Mayurbhanj district. She was suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting after allegedly consuming stale food at the Kakabandha Ashram School hostel in Rasagobindapur area.
The deceased has been identified as Rupali Beshra.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday when 146 boys and girls residing in the school hostel fell ill after eating stale food served in the hostel mess. All the affected students were immediately rushed to the local hospital. Out of them, 60 students, who were in critical condition, were later shifted to Baripada PRM Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
Rupali succumbed to her illness while undergoing treatment today.The death of the young girl has triggered strong anger and dissatisfaction among the parents and local residents, who have raised serious questions about the quality of food and hygiene standards being maintained in the ashram school hostel.
