Bhubaneswar: A 12-year-old girl drowned in a pond in the Soro area of Baleshwar district on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjita Das, a resident of Bagada village under Manatri panchayat within Soro police station limits.
As per reports, she was studying in Class VI at Manatri English Medium School. Sanjita had returned home after her morning tuition classes and went to a nearby pond for a bath before heading to school. When she failed to come back for a considerable time, her family members informed the Soro Fire Services.
Fire personnel arrived at the location and carried out a search. They recovered the girl from the pond and immediately shifted her to the Soro Community Health Centre. Doctors there declared her brought dead.
Soro police reached the hospital, took charge of the body and registered a case.
An investigation into the drowning incident is currently in progress.
