Bhubaneswar: An Class VIII student drowned in a village pond while immersing a Ganesh idol in Siddhikhandi area under Digapahandi police station limits in Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The deceased student has been identified as Sitanshu Jena, son of Moram Jena.
According to reports, a group of tuition students from Siddhikhandi area under Kotinada panchayat had gone to the local pond to immerse the Ganesh idol. Sitanshu was also present. Due to carelessness, he walked into the deep water and drowned. He was pulled out of the pond and rushed to Digapahandi hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident has sent shockwaves in the locality.
