Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced ex-gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of two individuals who lost their lives due to floods and landslides in Gajapati district. The amount will be provided from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

The victims have been identified as Trinath Nayak, son of Kartik Nayak, from Bastriguda Gram Panchayat, and Laxman Nayak, son of Kantaru Nayak, from Meripalli Gram Panchayat. Both deaths were caused by the continuous heavy rainfall that triggered floods and landslides in the region.

Upon receiving news of the tragic incident, CM Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and directed the District Collector of Gajapati to ensure timely disbursal of the financial assistance to the next of kin.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, as the district has been severely impacted by incessant rainfall in recent days.
