Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday distributed appointment letters to 964 newly recruited officials across five key government departments at a Nijukti Mela held at Krushi Sikhya Sadan of OUAT in Bhubaneswar. He emphasized that the energy and talent of Odisha’s youth are central to the state’s development.
Of the 964 posts filled, 563 belong to the Works Department, 62 to the Water Resources Department, 117 to the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, 204 to the Housing and Urban Development Department, and 18 to the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department. The positions include Junior Engineers, Tracers, Legal Metrology Inspectors, Junior Accountants, and Junior Implementation Officers.
Speaking at the event, CM Majhi outlined the government’s commitment to filling 1.5 lakh vacancies across various departments within five years, with 65,000 appointments planned in the first two years. “So far, 28,346 posts have been filled, and we aim to exceed the 65,000 target by June 2026,” he said.
He also highlighted employment in the private sector, stating that 45,000 youth secured jobs last year, bringing total job creation to 73,346.
The Chief Minister also underlined the role of industrial growth, citing the ‘Utkarsh Odisha 2025’ initiative, which has attracted Rs 17 lakh crore in investments and is expected to create 12.90 lakh jobs across 16 sectors.
“Within five months, 56 industrial units have been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid, ensuring over 1.10 lakh employment opportunities,” he added.
Majhi stressed that strict laws have been enacted to ensure a transparent, corruption-free recruitment process.
“Government jobs are instruments of public service. I urge all new appointees to stay committed to the people and uphold integrity,” he said.
Food and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said, “Young talents like you are vital to building a prosperous Odisha.” Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra called the appointments a blessing to be used for public service.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik expressed confidence in the new recruits’ contributions, while Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said, “This is the beginning of a historic employment drive never before seen in post-independence Odisha.”
During the event, newly appointed officials from various departments — Shivlal Kisan (Works Department), Anusaya Mohanty (Water Resources Department), B. Prabodh Ranjan Patra and Sandhya Rani Sahoo (Housing and Urban Development Department), Chandi Prasad Mishra (Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department), and Adyasha Singh (Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department) — expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for the transparency and timeliness of the recruitment process.
Development Commissioner Anu Garg delivered the welcome address and Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
