Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi hailed the Khurda Road-Balangir rail line project as a “historic milestone” for the state’s connectivity and regional development. The long-awaited project, first surveyed in 1947, is nearing completion and is expected to usher in a new era of growth, mobility, and economic progress.
The 301-km rail line will connect Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, and Balangir, boosting regional economies and strengthening access to markets and livelihood opportunities. The project features multi-km tunnels, dedicated wildlife underpasses and overpasses, and eco-sensitive design.
Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnaw praised the project’s transformative impact on Odisha’s connectivity. Once operational, the rail line will reduce travel time between Bhubaneswar and Balangir, improve access to education and healthcare, and stimulate trade and regional development.
