Bhubaneswar: Teachers play a significant role in shaping the future of the society. Teaching is one of the most prestigious professions, said Chief Minister Mohan Majhi while handing over appointment letters to 16,009 junior teachers (Schematic) in primary and upper primary schools.
A special programme was organised at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for Nijukti Mela.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the vital role teachers play in Indian tradition, noting they’re accorded the highest status. “In Sanatan culture, students learned from Gurus in Gurukulas, with Gurus revered like Lords Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar,” he said.
“While parents give birth, teachers shape children into complete humans through education and cultural practices.” Having served as a teacher, Majhi understands their responsibilities and pledged to recognize their contributions to Odisha’s future, significantly increasing this year’s education budget.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan discussed the Centre’s new education policy, focusing on education in mother tongue. He highlighted that teachers can instruct in their vernacular language up to Class VIII, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.
This policy aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which stresses education in mother tongue and Indian languages to ensure access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability.
