Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has lauded the Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, calling it “historic, people-centric, and development-oriented.”

He stated that the budget, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will accelerate the nation’s progress and uplift every section of society, including farmers, daily wage earners, the middle class, employees, women, youth, and students.

Highlighting the relief provided to the middle class, Majhi welcomed the move to exempt individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh per annum from income tax, allowing taxpayers to save at least ₹80,000 annually. He termed it a “Modi Guarantee” and praised the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.

Focusing on the agriculture sector, Majhi commended the introduction of the ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ in 100 districts to boost productivity and enhance farmers’ income. He also welcomed the increase in the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan limit from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, calling it a major step toward ensuring financial security for farmers.

The record ₹15.50 lakh crore capital investment in the budget will play a crucial role in job creation, Majhi noted. He also appreciated the substantial allocation of ₹54,832 crore for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which will help Odisha provide a record number of houses to the poor. Additionally, the ₹67,000 crore provision for Jal Jeevan Mission will ensure access to safe drinking water in villages across Odisha within the next two years.

Expressing his gratitude for the increase in Odisha’s share of central taxes, from ₹55,232 crore in 2024-25 to ₹64,408 crore in 2025-26, Majhi emphasized that this boost will allow the state to implement various welfare initiatives effectively.

Reaffirming Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Majhi echoed that the budget prioritizes the four pillars of national development—youth, women, farmers, and the poor. He stressed that investments in agriculture, MSMEs, infrastructure, and exports will serve as growth engines for India’s economy.

Calling the budget “pro-people, employment-driven, and future-ready,” Majhi expressed confidence that Odisha will witness unprecedented growth under the Modi government’s leadership.
