Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday urged citizens to prioritize their heart health and raise awareness about hypertension — a silent yet serious health threat.
In a message posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Majhi wrote, “High blood pressure often shows no symptoms but poses serious risks. Regular check-ups, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and stress management can save lives. Let’s raise awareness and commit to better heart health for a stronger #Odisha. #WorldHypertensionDay #SusthaOdisha.”

The appeal comes as the state government renews its focus on strengthening the public healthcare system, particularly in rural and underdeveloped regions of Odisha.
For the financial year 2024–25, the state government has earmarked Rs 21,200 crore for the health sector — a nearly 32% increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
This increased allocation reflects the administration’s emphasis on preventive care and improved access to medical services.
As part of its broader health strategy, the government is working toward establishing Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in every gram panchayat. These centres aim to bring basic health services closer to rural populations through the deployment of community health officers, auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), and multipurpose health workers.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and effective implementation of health initiatives, despite the significant budgetary support.
Reiterating his vision of a “Sustha Odisha” (Healthy Odisha), the Chief Minister called for collective efforts to promote preventive healthcare and raise community-level awareness about lifestyle diseases such as hypertension.
