Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the death of Odia jawan Saroj Kumar Das in Sikkim flash flood.
“I am saddened to hear about the martyrdom of Odia jawan Saroj Kumar Das in the flood disaster in Sikkim. His sacrifice in the service of the country will always be remembered. I expressed my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. May his soul rest in peace,” the CM stated on X, formerly Twitter.
Das was among 23 jawans who went missing in the flash flood in the Himalayan State. His body was recovered today. Family members also identified him through a video conference.
His body will reach his native village tomorrow. He will be cremated with full state honour, said Dhenknal Collector Saroj Kumar Sethi.
Das, a resident of Kendudhipa village under Kamakhyanagar police station in Dhenkanal, had married seven months ago.
Das served as a havildar in the Indian Army. He had been recruited in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) wing of Indian army in 2012.
