Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday expressed deep concerns over the labourers including five from the State being trapped inside an under-construction tunnel that collapsed in Uttarakhand.
“Deeply concerned to know that several workers including workers from Odisha have been trapped following the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Praying for the safe and speedy rescue of all the workers,” Patnaik stated on X, formerly Twitter.

According to a press release issued by Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd, the construction firm that has been entrusted with the project, five of the 40 victims hail from different regions of Odisha. They are Bisweswar Nayak from Mayurbhanj district, Tapan Mandal from Shankarashanpur in Khurda district, Raju Nayak from Kuldiha in Balasore district, Bhagwan Bhatra from Nabarangpur, and Dhiren from Badakudar from Sambalpur district.
A portion of the tunnel, which is a part of the Char Dham project and will connect Silkyara to Dangalgaon, collapsed on Sunday. Uttarakhand ADG Law and Order AP Anshuman said that no death has been reported yet and the NDR, SDRF, and other rescue teams are working to rescue the trapped labourers.
As many as 40 workers were trapped in the tunnel in Uttarkashi.
