Collector Orders Early Closure of Shops In Balasore Ahead Of Diwali

Balasore: In view of the upcoming Diwali festival and to maintain law and order during the festive period, the Balasore district administration has directed that all shops within the Balasore Municipality and town area must close by 10 PM daily from October 6 to October 21, 2025.

The order, issued by the Collector and District Magistrate of Balasore, cites that many shops in the town remain open till late night—sometimes up to 1 AM—which leads to large gatherings and poses a potential risk of law-and-order disturbances.

To prevent any untoward incidents during the festive season, the Collector has instructed the Superintendent of Police, Balasore, to ensure strict patrolling in the town area and to enforce the early closure directive, except for emergency services such as medical stores.

Copies of the order have also been forwarded to the Tahasildar, Balasore, and the Executive Officer, Balasore Municipality, for necessary compliance and coordination at their respective levels.

The restriction will remain in force till the conclusion of Diwali celebrations on October 21, 2025.
