Bhadrak: Tension ran high at Bhandaripokhari in Bhadrak district following the death of a college student in a road mishap on Thursday.
The deceased student has been identified as Shradhanjali Panda, a Plus II student of Bhandaripokhari College.
According to reports, Shradhanjali died after being hit by a tractor carrying sand when she was going to college. The incident prompted locals to block National Highway 16 in protest.
Eye-witnesses revealed that the victim was riding a bicycle to college when the tractor struck her from behind, running her over. She was rushed to the local hospital, where she was declared dead.
The accident has sparked tensions in the area, with locals blocking the highway and demanding action. As a result, traffic movement was disrupted severely, with hundreds of vehicles stuck on either side of the blockade.
Upon being informed, police arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident.
