Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police is considering procuring Air Conditioned (AC) helmets for traffic constables to beat the summer heat.
AC helmets were provided to a few traffic constables on an experimental basis on Saturday.
Based on the feedback the Commissionerate Police will consider procuring AC helmets for traffic constables in a phased manner.
“We will use these helmets for the next 3-4 days on an experimental basis. If the feedback is good and the vendor can provide the number required, we will implement it at the earliest,” said Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.
Panda stated that budget is no constraint and that the Commissionerate Police would plan to procure these helmets in a phased manner after reviewing feedback, requirements and other aspects.
These helmets are equipped with various special features. They have a visor to shield the eyes from sunlight and a charging point. It takes six hours to get fully charged and can provide cooling for up to eight hours in as high as 55°C temperature.
These helmets are already used by traffic constables in Gujarat, West Bengal and some states in the south.
“These helmets are used in Gujarat, West Bengal and some southern states. These can even work in high temperatures of 55°C. It is made in India and there is no problem in providing whatever quantity is required,” explained Sanjay Joshi, vendor of AC helmets.
