Bhubaneswar: The condition girl student who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after setting herself ablaze outside the principal’s chamber of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore on July 12 is still critical, according to doctors treating the burns victim.
“The student’s health condition remains complex and critical, similar to yesterday. There’s no significant improvement that can be reported yet. The next 72 hours are crucial. Our expert team conducted a thorough examination this morning, and fluid replacement is going on. We’re in constant touch with the AIIMS Delhi team. Her blood pressure is being maintained, but she has a slight fever. If necessary, dialysis will be conducted today. The hospital management is striving to provide the best possible care,” said Dr Dilip Parida, Superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
It is also learnt from hospital sources that her condition remains critical, with 90-95% burn injuries, many of which are deep and have caused serious internal damage, affecting her kidneys and respiratory system. The student’s sugar levels are being closely monitored, and hemodynamic monitoring is also being conducted. Her potassium levels have dropped significantly, and due to kidney damage, she is not able to urinate. The student is currently on 98% oxygen support.
She is being administered Vitamin C, D, E, and zinc supplements, and regular blood tests are being conducted at intervals. AIIMS Bhubaneswar has issued a health bulletin, providing updates on the victim’s condition, revealed sources.
Notably, a 10-member team has been formed by the AIIMS to provide the best treatment to the victim.
It is pertinent to mention that the student allegedly attempted self-immolation due to prolonged harassment by a lecturer of her department and the institution’s alleged failure to address her complaints.
