Bhubaneswar: The Congress party office in Odisha’s Puri witnessed pandemonium as party workers resorted to vandalism after the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) changed its nominee for the Puri Sadar Assembly constituency in Odisha.
Earlier, the party had nominated Sujit Mohapatra for the Puri Sadar Assembly seat. Still, the AICC published a revised list of candidates on Sunday replacing candidates for five Assembly seats, including Jaleshwar, Bari, Ashtmallik, Ashtgarh, and Puri Sadar.
The Congress replaces Sujit Mohapatra with senior party leader Uma Ballav Rath. This made Mohapatra’s supporters angry because Mohapatra had already filed his nomination papers before the party changed its candidates. Infuriated over the party’s decision to drop Mohapatra, his supporters went to the district party office and ransacked it on Sunday.
The angry supporters tore down party posters and flags and damaged the furniture. They also raised slogans against state Congress leaders.
