Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has moved a no-confidence motion against the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government in Odisha and is seeking the support of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Congress legislature party leader Ramachandra Kadam and MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati met with BJD MLAs Sarada Jena and Pratap Deb to discuss the motion.
The Congress party’s delegation also visited the chamber of Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik in the assembly premises but couldn’t meet him as he was absent. However, they discussed the matter with two BJD MLAs present in the chamber.
BJD chief whip Pramila Mallik said the Congress hasn’t approached them yet, and the party will take its own decision. “Let them do what they are doing, the BJD will take its own decision,” Mallik added.
Kadam emphasised that the BJD has been criticising the government’s performance, saying it has “failed” on all fronts. He urged the BJD to support the Congress’s no-confidence motion or bring their own motion, which the Congress would support. “We are also claiming that the government failed to provide safety to women, maintain law and order, and address problems faced by farmers, dalits, tribals, and OBCs,” Kadam said.
The no-confidence motion is signed by all 14 Congress MLAs and one CPI(M) member, Laxman Munda. The motion will be discussed in the Assembly, with the Congress party hoping to draw attention to the government’s alleged failures
