Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Congress on Friday received a major jolt following the resignation of the vice-president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Rajat Choudhury from the primary membership of the party.
Choudhury had served as Pradesh Youth Congress President from 2014 to 2016. Later he was appointed the general secretary of the Odisha Congress unit. Choudhury resigned from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect.
“With a heavy heart, I am submitting my resignation with immediate effect. I have been working for the party for the last 24 years with different positions,” read the resignation letter of Choudhury addressed to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Sarat Pattanayak.
Choudhury also sent his resignation copy to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi.
With Lok Sabha and Assembly elections approaching, the resignation of Choudhury from the party’s primary membership is likely to cost the Congress dearly because he played a crucial role in the party, especially at the organisation level.
