Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Das has appealed to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to move a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led state government, citing its failure to discharge its duties and address atrocities against women.
Das stated that the government has failed to take responsibility for the rising incidents of violence against women and is not feeling ashamed. He urged the BJD, as the principal opposition party, to take up its responsibility and move a no-confidence motion in the Assembly.
“We are ready to support the motion,” Das said, emphasising that the BJD has 51 seats in the Assembly and it is their prime responsibility to support the people.
“If the government fails to discharge its duty, the role of the Opposition is to remove it from power. In the Odisha Assembly, BJD has 51 seats. So, its prime responsibility is to support the people. The party should move a no-confidence motion in the Assembly to oust the government. The BJD should seek our support, and we are ready to support it as women’s issues are involved in it,” the OPCC chief said.
Responding to Das, BJD vice president Debi Mishra said that the decision to move a no-confidence motion would be taken by the party’s legislature party in a meeting. Mishra highlighted that the BJD has always fought for women’s rights and condemned atrocities against them under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik.
The BJD leader added that the party would take a decision on the no-confidence motion after the Assembly notification is issued.
