Berhampur: A constable foiled the self immolation bid of a woman on the premises of the SDJM Court in Berhampur on Friday. The woman identified as Jarana Swain (30) had entered the court premises at around 11.45 am and tried to set herself on fire.
Constable Rasmi Ranjan Das, who was posted for security of SDJM Berhampur, stopped her and rescued her immediately with the help of few other public present there.
As per reports, Jarana had on October 31, 2020 lodged a complaint against one Bapuni Sahu accusing him of raping her. He had been arrested but was released on bail.
Jarana had alleged that her husband Upendra Swain who was working in Hyderabad was sending money to her through one Bapuni Sahu’s bank account and hence both became close. She claimed that taking advantage of this, Bapuni raped her repeatedly.
On November 14 this year, a case had been registered at Gosaninuagan Police Station based on Jarana’s complaint. Subsequently, accused Bapuni was arrested and forwarded to court.
