Sambalpur: A police constable of Bareipali police station has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old minor girl.
The accused constable has been identified as Biranchi Munda.
According to reports, the constable took the minor girl of Adibasipada to a secluded spot under the pretext of watching a Shital Sasthi yatra procession and tried to rape her.
The victim, who happened to be the constable’s niece, managed to escape from the spot and bravely informed her family members about the incident.
The family members and local residents lodged a complaint with the police, following which the constable was arrested and produced in court.
Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating the matter.
