Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a young couple was found hanging from a banyan tree near the Naun-Mania sluice gate at Mohantypatna village under Mangalpur police station in Jajpur district.
The deceased were identified as Samir Das (25), son of Manguli Das of Ishwarpur village, and Surekha Malik (22) of Mohantypatna village.
According to reports, Samir worked at a plywood company in Kerala and had returned home a few days ago. The girl was found with sindoor on her forehead, a mangalsutra around her neck, alta on her feet, and bangles on her hands. The boy’s hands also had traces of alta and sindoor. Both were hanging from the branch of a banyan tree with a dupatta tied around their necks, suggesting they died by suicide together.
Family members said Samir had left home on Monday evening and did not return.
The exact reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained. Police probe is underway.
