Balasore: A container truck allegedly transporting cattle illegally was seized by members of Bajrang Dal near Velora Chhak on National Highway 16 under Basta police station limits in Balasore district on Monday. The driver of the vehicle has been detained by the police for questioning.
According to reports, Bajrang Dal workers received specific information around noon about a container truck carrying cows from Balasore towards West Bengal. Acting on the tip-off, the activists tracked the vehicle along NH-16 and intercepted it near Velora Chhak.
Following the interception, the workers immediately informed Basta police station.
Basta police have seized the container truck and took the driver into custody.
More than 50 cows were reportedly found crammed inside the container. The animals were later rescued and shifted to a nearby gaushala for care and shelter.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and destination of the cattle and to determine whether any laws related to illegal cattle transportation were violated.
