Balasore: In a major operation against cattle smuggling networks, police conducted simultaneous raids at 19 locations across Balasore, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj districts under the Eastern Range, seizing vehicles, cash, silver, and banking documents linked to suspected smugglers.

The coordinated raids were launched shortly after midnight as part of an intensified drive against organised cattle smuggling activities in the region. During the operation, police seized 20 vehicles, more than one kilogram of silver, over ₹50,000 in cash, 19 bank passbooks, and several ATM cards.

The action comes nearly two months after a previous large-scale crackdown on cattle smuggling syndicates operating in northern Odisha.

Speaking on the operation, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eastern Range Pinak Mishra said sustained police action has begun yielding results, with cattle smuggling and illegal transportation activities showing signs of decline. He noted that continuous surveillance and targeted raids have disrupted the operations of cattle smuggling networks.

The DIG further stated that smugglers are increasingly adopting new methods to transport cattle in an attempt to evade law enforcement. However, police have intensified monitoring and remain vigilant to prevent illegal transportation and dismantle smuggling networks.

Officials indicated that investigations are continuing and further action may follow based on evidence gathered during the raids.
