Nayagarh: In the wake of a firecracker explosion that left one dead and five persons critically injured in Korada village under Nuagaon police station limits, Nayagarh Police have intensified enforcement measures, conducting raids on firecracker warehouses across the district.
Acting on the directions of the Superintendent of Police (SP), police teams carried out searches at multiple firecracker warehouses in the Itamati and Nayagarh Sadar police station areas. During the operation, firecrackers worth several lakh rupees were seized and four persons were arrested in connection with alleged illegal storage and handling.
Police have registered two separate cases at Itamati and Sadar police stations, and further investigation is currently underway.
The crackdown comes amid heightened concerns over safety ahead of major local events, including Daspalla Lankapodi, Gania, and Korada Gada Lankapodi, where firecracker use is traditionally widespread.
Addressing a press conference, the Nayagarh Additional SP Jyoti Samantaray announced strict restrictions on the use of firecrackers, stating that no bursting of firecrackers will be permitted during any event without prior official permission.
Authorities have urged the public to comply with safety regulations to prevent further incidents, as the injured continue to undergo treatment in critical condition.
