Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch arrested a 45-year-old man from East Singhbhum of Jharkhand on Friday from a hotel in Cuttack for allegedly duping a victim of Rs 8,60,390 through online gaming apps, including www.damanworld.net, Bounty Game, Ubitcoin Staking Opportunity, Ride BNB, and HAHM.

According to the investigation, Lokanath Nag came into contact with the victim in 2023 through a networking business and promised high returns on investments within two months. He convinced the victim to transfer money to various accounts, claiming it was for investment in online gaming platforms. Preliminary investigations reveal that Nag used the ill-gotten money to purchase a 2 BHK house in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Nag has been forwarded to the Presiding Officer, Designated Court under the Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (OPID) Act, Cuttack. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other accused individuals involved in the case. The CID Crime Branch is working to trace out the links of other accused persons and find out their involvement in this case.
