Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch has filed a charge sheet in the Balasore SDJM court in connection with the tragic self-immolation case of a student at Fakir Mohan College. The charge sheet, spanning 349 pages, includes statements from 120 witnesses.
Initially, the charge sheet has been filed against two accused, with plans to file it against the other two accused later. The case revolves around allegations of harassment and abetment, with four persons, including two students, arrested in connection with the incident. Two students were arrested for allegedly conspiring and inciting the victim to self-immolate.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Crime Branch has kept the case open.
The woman student had on July 12 poured petrol on her body and set herself on fire for allegedly being denied justice in a sexual harassment case against the head of the department (HoD) of Integrated BEd.
She sustained 95 per cent burn injuries and died on the night of July 14 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
