Crime Branch Recreates Nayagarh Double Murder Scene

Nayagarh: The Crime Branch of the Odisha police on Wednesday conducted a detailed crime scene reconstruction in the shocking double murder case of two minor brothers in Dhanchangda village under Fatehgarh police limits in Nayagarh district. The accused—father Prakash Mohanty and his mother Souri Mohanty—were brought back to the crime spot to re-enact the brutal killings that took place on March 10.

Under tight security, forensic experts and investigators meticulously recreated the sequence of events based on the accused’s chilling confession. The Crime Branch team filmed the reconstruction to corroborate evidence before submitting the final report.

According to reports, Prakash and Souri demonstrated how late on Sunday night they first lured the younger son, Vikash, to the toilet before strangling him. They then smothered the elder son, Akash, stuffing his mouth with cloth to stifle his screams. Finally, they tied the boys’ hands and hung their bodies to make it appear like suicide.

Police investigations revealed that the crime was triggered because the two boys, aged 10 and 12, had opposed their father’s plans for a second marriage. The accused had allegedly planned the murders days in advance but failed multiple times before succeeding on the fateful night.

After initial suspicion, Prakash and Souri broke down during interrogation and admitted to the killings. The local police arrested them and later handed over the case to the Crime Branch for a deeper probe.

The Crime Branch is now analyzing forensic evidence, including the rope used in the staged suicide and the cloth that gagged Akash. Officials confirmed that the reconstruction will help strengthen the case before charges are framed.

The horrific crime has left the village in shock, with demands for swift justice growing louder.
