Crime Branch Takes Over Probe Into MKCG Medical College PG Exam Paper Leak

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the alleged leak of the final-year postgraduate examination question paper at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahmapur, intensifying the probe into one of the state’s most sensitive academic malpractice cases.

Crime Branch Director General Vinaytosh Mishra said a special investigation team will be constituted shortly to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. The agency has begun collecting evidence and examining how the question paper was leaked, who was responsible for circulating it on social media, and where the leak originated.

According to the Crime Branch DG, the investigation is currently at a preliminary stage, with officials gathering data and conducting initial inquiries. Mishra said strict action would be taken against all those found involved in the incident.

The controversy surfaced after the question paper of the PG final-year examination allegedly went viral on social media on July 27 while the examination was in progress. The examinations had commenced on July 21.

The alleged leak triggered widespread concern among examinees and sparked discussions in academic circles over the integrity of the examination process. Following the incident, the authorities at MKCG Medical College had initiated an internal inquiry and constituted a fact-finding team.

However, with the case becoming increasingly sensitive and involving wider questions about the security of the examination system, the state government transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch.

Investigators are expected to examine whether the leak originated from within the institution or involved any external individuals or organisations, while efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the circulation of the question paper. The findings of the Crime Branch probe are expected to determine accountability and recommend further legal action.
