Bhubaneswar: A team of the Crime Branch which is investigating the murder case of cameraman Manas Swain today visited Dayal Ashram in Sunderpada area of the city. The ashram was sealed by the CB officials following a thorough inquiry and inspection.
It was at Dayal Ashram where Swain was allegedly fatally assaulted in the presence of Sampurna magazine’s editor Sarmista Rout and ex-Director (Technical) of I&PR Department Niranjan Sethi.
The CB team, assisted by forensic experts searched the premises for evidence and incriminating items. Detailed videography of the Ashram was carried out by the team led by Deputy SP Kalpana Sahu on Sunday afternoon.
Prime accused in this case Sarmista is still on the run while six including her brother and Sethi have been arrested so far. The woman and her associate Jhuna are likely to have fled Odisha and have ceased any form of contact with their families said police.
While the reason behind this crime is stated to be a memory chip that was in possession of Swain, it is yet to be recovered by the police, said sources. Similarly, a handwritten letter of Swain, believed to be his last, is being searched.
