Baripada: In a gruesome incident, a son brutally killed his mother over a dispute regarding a share of rice at Saratchandrapur under Baripada Sadar police station in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased, identified as Raibari Singh, was attacked by her son Rohidas Singh with a sharp weapon, resulting in her death on the spot due to profuse bleeding.
According to reports, a family dispute had been brewing between Rohidas and his brother Laxmikant Singh. The argument escalated when Rohidas and his mother got into a fight over the rice share.
Rohidas attempted to take his own life by slitting his throat with the same knife used to kill his mother. He was admitted to the PRM Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Laxmikant Singh, who was away working as a daily wager, discovered the incident upon his return home and filed a complaint with the police.
The police have registered a case at the Baripada Sadar police station and arrested Rohidas Singh, who is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital under police custody.
