Bhubaneswar: Crime Branch will conduct an enquiry into the alleged thrashing of adivasi women by the SDPO in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district. An IG-level officer will conduct the probe.
This was informed by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the Odisha Assembly today.
The Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes during ‘Zero Hour’ today as Congress and BJP members shouted slogans over the issue.
Congress members raised the issue of Chitrakonda SDPO Anshuman Dwibedi’s goonda raj (bullying).
Congress MLAs alleged that on the night of June 7 police entered RSC-13 village of Malkangiri district and thrashed adivasi women indiscriminately.
The police spared none. Not even pregnant women, elderly women or a 14-year-old minor girl, the Congress MLAs alleged and added that there was no woman police officer in the team.
Congress Chief Whip Taraprasad Bahinipati displayed photographs in this connection and alleged that the policemen were drunk.
