Jagatsinghpur: Frustrated over crop loss due to unseasonal rains last week, another farmer reportedly ended his life by hanging in Sarena village under Balikuda police limits in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Krutibas Swain.
According to reports, Krutibas had gone to their agricultural field with his brother on Monday. However, he was devastated to see his ready-to-harvest crop damaged due to the unseasonal rain. He returned home in the evening and locked him up in his room.
When Krutibas did not come out for dinner, his family members knocked at his door but he did not respond.
Worried, the family members called their neighbours broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling. They rescued Krutibas and rushed him to the local healthcare facility where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
His family members later alleged that Krutibas took the extreme step owing the extensive crop damage and fearing the losses he encountered. They have demanded appropriate compensation to his next of kin.
