Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack district administration has cancelled cultural programmes to be held tonight at Bali Jatra ground due to the death of former Minister and veteran BJP leader Samir Dey.
The administration took the decision as a mark of respect towards Dey who passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.
As per reports, the historic Bali Jatra began three days ago, featuring vibrant cultural programs every night until 10 PM, offering a plethora of entertainment options for visitors. On Saturday, resentment brewed among visitors when police stopped the cultural programmes due to time constraints. However, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi intervened in the matter, directing the district administration to continue cultural programmes until 10:30 PM.
However, considering the city’s sentiment for the BJP leader, the administration decided to cancel today’s cultural programmes. Dey’s demise has left the entire city in mourning.
It may be mentioned that senior BJP leader Dey passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack at the age of 67. Dey was suffering from pneumonia and lung infections. On November 1, he was admitted to a private hospital in CDA in Cuttack where he breathed his last.
