Cuttack: Cuttack police on Tuesday arrested one Emaz Ansari alias Imran, a native of neighbouring state of Jharkhand who posing as a Naxal had demanded Rs 50 lakh from Dr Sami Salim of Sifa Hospital over the phone and through message.
Briefing reporters here today, ACP Zone-III Tapan Pradhan stated that Dr Salim had reported at Bidanasi police station that he had received a phone call on January 10 wherein the caller greeted him ‘Lal Salaam’ and demanded Rs 50 lakh.
The caller had threatened to kidnap Dr Salim’s family if he failed to pay the amount, Pradhan said.
Pradhan stated that police were able to nab Ansari by tracing his calls.
Two teams were deployed to nab Ansari and one had been to Jharkhand, Pradhan added.
