Cuttack: Acting on a tip-off, police busted a racket in counterfeit currency notes and arrested on person in connection with the crime in the Jagatpur area of Cuttack district. The accused had plans to release the counterfeit notes in the market during the Durga Puja festival.

According to police, a few people posing as real estate agents have been luring people to invest in the counterfeit currency note business.

Police said that the arrested accused introduced himself as a builder and promised a local to help purchase land. He had taken an advance payment of Rs 1.6 lakh for the job. However, when the land deal did not materialise, the victim asked the accused to return his money.

Following this the accused invited the victim to a hotel and tried to convince the victim to join the counterfeit currency note business. He told the victim that he could earn Rs 1 crore by investing Rs 2.5 lakh.

Sensing trouble, the victim alerted the police who arrested a man, identified as Nirmal Dehuri of Bantala area in Angul. The police have now launched a manhunt for Rahas Nayak, the mastermind of the racket.
