Bhubaneswar: Janaki Ranjan Mallik, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kakhadi Circle under Sadar Tahasil, Cuttack, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance sleuths today for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a landowner.
The bribe was allegedly taken from the landowner to submit a favourable report in a mutation case and issue a Record of Rights (ROR or Patta) in favour of the landowner.
The landowner had applied online for the mutation case, and Mallik had fixed a hearing date for January 27, 2026. However, he asked the landowner to visit his office on January 20, 2026, and demanded the bribe. The landowner reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, leading to Mallik’s arrest.
The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered and seized, and searches are underway at three locations linked to Mallik from DA angle.
A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
