Bhubaneswar: In a bid to maintain law and order, the Cuttack district administration has imposed a 36-hour curfew in the city, effective from 10 PM last night. The curfew affects 13 police station areas, including CMC, CDA, and 52 mouzas.
While the city is under lockdown, essential services like medical stores, hospitals, and grocery shops will remain open. People can access these services during the curfew hours. Petrol pumps, medical facilities, and other critical services will also function as usual.
To prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain peace, internet services and social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, have been suspended till 7 PM today.
Meanwhile, Law and Order Additional Director General (ADG) Sanjay Kumar issued a stern warning to those involved in the recent violence in Cuttack, stating that “Police have identified the miscreants and will take swift action to apprehend them. To maintain law and order, extensive security measures have been put in place in Cuttack. Around 50-60 platoons of police forces, along with six companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), have been deployed in sensitive areas to ensure stability and prevent any untoward incidents. We’ll uphold Cuttack’s legacy of brotherhood by promoting peace.”
It is pertinent to mention that the violent clash at Dargah Bazaar during the Durga Puja idol immersion procession on October 3 left four people injured, including Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. Based on CCTV footage, police have arrested six persons linked to the violence, who were produced before the court on Saturday.
