Cuttack’s Hadua Irrigation Project Gets Odisha Cabinet Nod

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cabinet on Friday approved a major irrigation project for the drought-prone areas of Cuttack district under the Hadua Irrigation Project.

The Cabinet cleared the tender for the construction of a comprehensive distribution system using Underground Pipeline (UGPL) technology for the Hadua Irrigation Project. The project will ensure assured irrigation to a cultivable command area of 3,641 hectares in Narasinghpur, Badamba and Tigiria blocks.

The project envisages construction of a reservoir across the Hadua River near village Kharod in Cuttack district along with an extensive distribution system to provide assured irrigation facilities to 3641 hectares of cultivable command area (CCA) in the drought-prone regions of the aforesaid blocks.

According to a release issued by Water Resources Department, the approved execution cost (excluding GST) is Rs 135.75 crore (Rupees One Hundred Thirty-Five Crore Seventy-Five Lakh Ninety-Seven Thousand Thirty-Five and Eighty-Two Paise only). Additionally, the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) cost for five years has been approved at Rs 6.86 crore. The entire work is scheduled to be completed within 24 months. Construction of the Hadua Dam across the Hadua River near Kharod village is already in progress.

Once the distribution system is ready, the project will provide assured irrigation facilities to 86 villages — 76 villages in Baramba Block, 5 villages in Narasinghpur Block, and 5 villages in Tigiria Block.
