Bhubaneswar: At least Rs 35 crore was looted by cyber criminals from victims in Odisha during 2020 to 2022 (till April).
In an answer to a question raised by Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister of State for Home, Tusharkanti Behera said the modus operandi of this crime keeps on evolving and people become victims due to ignorance.
During the last 16 months, total 1,931 cases of cyber crime have been registered in different Odisha districts in which 366 persons have been arrested.
The written reply of the Minister revealed that out of the looted amount, Rs 16 lakh has been recovered.
The maximum number of cases were registered in Cuttack (154), Jajpur (132), Mayurbhanj (123), Angul (113), and the Crime Branch has registered 105 cases.
