Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains and strong winds are lashing several coastal districts of Odisha following the landfall of Cyclone Dana has made landfall near Habalikhati in Kendrapara district in the wee hours of Friday.
According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Chandabali in the Bhadrak district received the highest rainfall of 131.6 mm so far. Balasore has recorded 42.8 mm of rainfall during the process of the Cyclone Dana over the Bay of Bengal, informed Regional Director of IMD Manorama Mohanty.
“The severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ (pronounced as Dana) moved north-north westwards with a speed of 10kmph and lay centred over north coastal Odisha, about 20km north-northwest of Dhamra and 40km north-northwest of Habalikhati nature camp (Bhitarkanika),” informed IMD.
Worth mentioning, the Cyclone Dana crossed the north Odisha coast close to Habalikhati nature camp between Bhitarkanika and Dhamara between 1.30 am and 3.30 am today as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.
