Cyclone Dana Likely To Make Landfall Between Puri & Sagar Island: IMD

Bhubaneswar: With the low-pressure area forming over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea, is currently intensifying into depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the storm to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25.

Going by the IMD’s latest prediction, the cyclonic storm Dana is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning of October 25 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

For October 23, the regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) to Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri

The weather office has issued red alerts to six districts for isolated extremely heavy rainfall.

“Heavy to very heavy falls(7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Cuttack,” read the IMD forecast for October 24.

For October 25, the weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall to Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal.

Besides, an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) has been issued to Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal”, read the IMD release.

Similarly, the weather department has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall to nine districts such as Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Jharsuguda.
