Bhubaneswar: Amid the preparedness for Cyclone Dana, which is expected to reach the Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Thursday night and Friday early morning, Odisha Minister for and Disaster Management Suresh Pujari on Wednesday said that more than 5,000 relief centers have been set up in the vulnerable districts and the government expects to evacuate around 10 lakh people from different areas of the state.
Talking to the media on Wednesday, Pujari said, “The last review meeting to take stock of the situation and assess the preparedness at the grassroots level has been done. As of now, more than 5,000 relief centers have been set up with all modern facilities to provide drinking water, food, milk to children, and medicine to the ailing people. We are expecting around 10 lakh evacuation.”
The minister highlighted that the telecom department has assured that the telecom network won’t collapse at any place. “Tata Power has also assured us to provide round-the-clock electricity. In case of any disruption, we have made arrangements for backup power supply,” he said.
