Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Additional Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Padmanav Behera has directed the District Collectors of Ganjam, Puri, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore to ensure that fishermen in their areas do not venture out into the sea between October 16 and 26 in view of the mid-day weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.
The letter issued by the SRC reads, “Fishermen out at sea are advised to return to the coast,” adding, “It is, therefore, requested to ensure the above advisory among the fishermen at your level and to furnish a certificate that all fishermen returned from the sea.”
It is worth mentioning here that the IMD has issued cyclone warning for Odisha and West Bengal, with the former expected to bear the maximum brunt of the severe cyclonic storm.
The cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea during the next 24 hours, move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over East-central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning, according to the national forecaster.
