Bhubaneswar: The Ganjam district administration has stated that it is fully prepared for safe evacuation and disaster management in view of the impending Cyclone Murasu.
The administration has set a target to shift a total of 2,94,752 people to safe places, out of which 1,51,434 people have already been evacuated. To accommodate them, 110 permanent shelters and 1,029 temporary shelters have been kept ready in the district, with a combined capacity of 3,41,700 people.
Also, medical teams have been deployed at the evacuation centres to provide necessary healthcare services. Essential relief materials have been ensured in all blocks and ULBs, and any additional requirement will be supplied by this evening. Generators and water tankers have also been arranged at the shelters for the evacuated people.
To create public awareness, miking is being carried out in all areas. For better coordination at the grassroots level, one nodal officer has been appointed for each village who will ensure coordination and provision of all basic facilities.
All schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres in the district have been closed till November 3. The administration is also taking steps to ensure road and power connectivity at all important places along with uninterrupted power supply.
Meanwhile, people residing in unsafe and dangerous buildings have been identified and are being shifted to safe locations. Landslide-prone areas in four blocks of the district have also been identified and precautionary measures are being taken accordingly.
